fill somebody in (on something) 은 어떤 사람에게 (모르고 있는 일, 놓친 정보 등)에 대해서 얘기해주다, 알려주다 라는 뜻입니다.
fill 의 뜻은 '채우다' 로 fill in 하면 빈 곳, 빈 칸, 빈 자리 등을 채우거나 메우다 대신하다 라는 뜻이 있어요. 여기서 fill somebody in 은 누군가에게 정보를 줘서 모르고 있는, 놓친 부분을 채워준다는 의미입니다. 그 사람이 알아야하는 (알면 좋은) 정보나 그가 없을 때 일어난 일, 최근 소식등에 대해 얘기해준다는 뜻으로 캐주얼하게 많이 쓰이는 표현입니다.
